Subhas Chandra Bose was an Indian nationalist whose defient patriotism made him a hero in India, but whose attempt during WW2 to ri India of British rule with the help of National Socialist Germany and Imperial Japan left a troubled legacy. Responsible for forming the Indian Legion in the Wehrmacht and the Indian National Liberation Army was and remains a folk hero to many Indians today.
Broadcasting from Berlin he would advocate India for the Indians. He met both Hitler and Himmler and Tojo on a number of occasions and would take perilous submarine journeys from Asia to Europe in wartime in order to advance his cause.
Statues and monuments to him are present throughout India and after a place crash in which he was severely injured and died his ashes are interred at the Renkoji Temple in Tokyo where there still exists a memorial to him.
